February 7th-9th 2008 - Toronto's International Bike Show in association with Kona Bikes, Diamond Back, and Ryders Eyewear, have always offered the opportunity for Canada's 4x & BMX racers to shake the dust out of their legs, get a little track time, and put on a great show for all the spectators. Sorry we didn't get these up sooner, but Larissa and My flight was cancelled due to the storm and it took and extra day just to get home. Friday February 7th - Tonight's race was a real special one. It was a chance for riders all over Ontario to come together to celebrate the life of Ontario's own Tim DaSilva. Tim's family were in the stands cheering on Tim's Bro, Chris as he qualified in the number #1 spot going into this elimination rounds. He was tied for 1st with Kona's Matt Stevens (me!), and Indiana's A Pro, Brian Streiby, but Chris's determination and grit showed he wanted this win more than anyone else. We didn't make it easy on him, but it didn't phase him at all. As the Main gate dropped, the house erupted in a show of support for the top four riders of the night. Andrew Harper, who was at least 60lbs lighter than just about everyone else, nailed his gates, and blockpassed like a linebacker. Industry Skatepark's Brandon Cassell was pumped to make the main and couldn't stop grinning even after the gate dropped. It was a great race and a chance to reflect on why we all got into this sport in the first place.... The love of bikes, the love of competition, and the love of good friends. Three values that pretty much sum up Tim DaSilva. Here's how it looked after the dust settled: 1st Chris Dasilva 2nd Andrew Harper 3rd Brandon Cassell 4th Brian Streiby 5th Greg Bidwell 6th Matt Stevens 7th Kyle Pearson 8th Bradie Johnston Saturday February 8th - You could see the motivation in everyone's eyes after getting a taste for the track on Friday night. The track came together pretty nicely and everyone knew it. In every class, there were great gates, block passes, crashes, lots of passing, and a hell of a lot of smiles and hands shaking at the finish. Indiana's A Pro, Brian Streiby won the endurance award as he rode, and placed, in Pro BMX 20", Pro Cruiser, Pro MTB, and Stunt. Saturday Results: BMX Amateur Men: 1st Austin Harper 2nd Scott Simpson 3rd Hunter Foster 4th Scott Stevens 5th Brett 6th Kyle Molnar 7th Amelia Walsh 8th Sterling Evans MTB Amateur Men: 1st Cam Milliken 2nd Bill Graham 3rd Keith Grant 4th Derek Abraham 5th Rob Fraser 6th Simon Winter 7th Shane Joachim 8th Brennan Kovacevich BMX Pro Cruiser 1st Brian Streiby 2nd Kyle Pearson 3rd Brandon Cassell 4th Chris DaSilva 5th Tyler Simpson 6th Matt Stevens 7th Campbell Milliken 8th Cameron Loftus BMX Pro Men 1st Jean-Sebastien Houde 2nd Brian Streiby 3rd Kyle Lourenssen 4th Kyle Pearson 5th Chris DaSilva 6th Bradie Johnston 7th Andrew Harper 8th Greg Bidwell MTB Pro Women 1st Sheila Morris 2nd Caroline Arsenault 3rd Stacey Cassell 4th Katie Paget 5th Aubrey Iwaniw 6th Erin McCann MTB Pro Men 1st Brian Streiby 2nd Kyle Pearson 3rd Brandon Cassell 4th Sean Barron 5th Matt Stevens 6th Hugh MacLachlan 7th Matt Zdriluk 8th Trash Can Sunday February 9th - There were three major factors affecting racers on Sunday. The snow storm that buried Toronto, The loss of an hour for daylight savings, and the fairly obvious result of the awesome Primary Racing After Party on Saturday night! All the guys and girls pushed their way through the pain to ride some of the best riding we'd seen all weekend. Brian Streiby was treating it like another day at work, while "Kid" Kyle Pearson filled in for the injured Chris DaSilva (collarbone) as the rep from the Ontario BMX team. Another Ontario rider, Austin Harper, took the BMX Am class, while Keith Grant took the MTB Am. Sunday Results: BMX Amateur Men: 1st Austin Harper 2nd Scott Stevens 3rd Scott Simpson 4th Hunter Foster 5th Kyle Molnar 6th Amelia Walsh 7th Carmelo Genova 8th Jayson MacKinnon MTB Amateur Men: 1st Keith Grant 2nd Fraser Johnston 3rd Tommy Lucas 4th Nicholas Kesik 5th Cam Milliken 6th Brennan Kovacevich BMX Pro Cruiser: 1st Brian Streiby 2nd Kyle Pearson 3rd Matt Stevens 4th Campbell Milliken 5th Brandon Cassell 6th Justin Silva 7th Cameron Loftus BMX Pro Men: 1st Brian Streiby 2nd Kyle Lourenssen 3rd Bradie Johnston 4th Hugo Leduc Benoit 5th Kyle Pearson 6th Jean-Sebastien Houde 7th Jorg Hildebrandt 8th Greg Bidwell MTB Pro Women: 1st Amelia Walsh 2nd Shelia Morris 3rd Aubrey Iwaniw 4th Stacey Cassell 5th Caroline Arsenault MTB Pro Men: 1st Brian Streiby 2nd Matt Stevens 3rd Kyle Pearson 4th Terry Leimonis 5th Jorg Hildebrandt 6th Brandon Cassell 7th Matt Zdriluk 8th Bill Graham The show was a great kick off to the 2008 season, and it's safe to say that everyone who raced will be pumped to hit more races this season and build the sport of 4x in Ontario. Have a great season everyone!! Matt & Larissa
