With summer behind us the riding season at Blue Mountain is winding down and it's time to get as many runs in before the lifts shut down. This coming weekend would be a great time to head up to Collingwood as the much-awaited GBX Film Festival is happening this Friday Sept 25 at the Blue Mountain Inn.

It's always great to see someone organizing an event like this to bring the community together. What better way than to hang out and watch some cool films followed by a great day of riding?

"Isaiah Walters is an Owen Sound based filmmaker as well as an avid Great Lakes freshwater surfer. He has been sought out as an invitational curator at the Footprints Environmental Conference and has gathered a strong reputation for his good cinematic eye and films of his own creation. Mix these two facts together, and shake them up well and the Georgian Bay eXtreme Sports Film Festival was born.

A year in the making, the first Georgian Bay eXtreme Sports Film Festival is poised to explode onto the screen on Friday, September 25, 2009 at Blue Mountain Resort in Collingwood. This will be an evening of thrilling viewing for connoisseurs of extreme sport all from the safety of your seat. Ever supportive of local talent, submissions of local films were encouraged. Because of Walters’ international connections, these selections will join the ranks of professional filmmakers from around the world. Films portray our fabulous Georgian Region in counterpoint balance to locales as far away as New Zealandand as exotic as the Canary Islands.

Be prepared to ride giant waves and step off cliffs as you experience base-jumping, acrobatic parachuting, mountain biking, skateboarding and surfing. Award winning filmmaker, Dan Mizicko has contributed a special festival edit of his eye-popping feature, Long Weekend, capturing the essence of action sports. These crazy sportsters take their recreation very seriously but the audience can pull humour from these same sources. The Festival audience will have the opportunity to experience Lift, a film about base-jumping by the Extreme Sport - Team Silver, which has been screened at the X-Dance Shorts and ESFN Austria Festival.

The GBX Festival takes aim at providing some high-octane, adrenaline ripping entertainment mixed with some exploratory films that will inform the audience of new innovations and directions in extreme sports. Filmmakers will be considered for the Jury’s Prize, to be announced that evening. GBX’ers will look forward to a jam-packed program of films and will participate in deciding the People’s Choice Award for their favourite film of the night.

The GBX Sports Film Festival takes place in a great venue, the Weider Room of the Blue Mountain Inn, within the Blue MountainResort in Collingwood on Friday, September 25, 2009. Doors will open at 7pm with films starting at 7:30pm. Tickets are $10, $5 for students, available at the door, Vertical Hardcore Boardshop (Owen Sound), Kamikaze Bikes(Collingwood) and Boardsports (Blue Mountain Village). Walters promises,“Buckle up, it will be quite a ride!” "

I am proud to say that Entrails will be a part of this event because the whole idea of that project was made in the same spirit that this film festival believes in: supporting and showing off the local talent and potential of Ontario and the Georgian Bay area. So, come out and support this local event! Everybody says that they wish there were more community events, and now that there is, come out and have fun!
