Walking around Sea Otter this morning my main goal was to catch up with old friends. Almost everyone of those conversations has, at some point, included TAG wheels. Dispite being online for quite some time, for many this is the first time they've actually seen the wheels in person.
Once I entered the booth company owner Mike Thomas introduced me to the product. Each of the Tag wheels are made using a composite nylon developed by Dupont and modified from traditional nylon using a process developed for Tag. Essentially these wheels are a glass-reinforced nylon, a process not too different from the stuff Zefel tire levers are made from. Similar in idea, but not necessarily the same.
While I was talking to Mike, Danger Dan from "North Shore Extreme" fame rode into the booth on the set he's been trying out. Soon Dropmachine forum member Tyler Skrinek (Ajaxripper) will have a set to test for a Dropmachine Review. The hubs are a special DT swiss hub, which is 'keyed' within the composite wheel to ensure there are no problems. According to Mike, the wheels are essentially bullet-proof and have a claimed weight of 1828g for the front (20mm axle) and 1928g for the rear (135mm x 12mm thru axle).
